The Dan Parkinson Years

SRL311-00701

The Dan Parkinson Years, 1967-1972

Dan Parkinson bought SRL311-00701 from new and collected it himself from the docks. Originally red, Dan soon painted the car off-white, and it was in these colours, normally under racing number '5', that he was to campaign the car until it was sold, in 1972.

The car was never registered for road use. Original factory specification for this low windshield car was the Hitachi/SU spec., although, throughout his ownership, Dan raced with both the Mikuni (in C Production) and Hitachi (in D Production) set-ups. Dan and his father, E.B. Parkinson, modified the car to race specification, and it was Dan who installed the roll bar in a no-nonsense fashion through the trunk. The same roll bar exists to this day.

The car was a regular qualifier for the annual SCCA runoffs, and although a fifth National Championship eluded  Dan, he did place the car second in the 1969 runoffs, 9 seconds behind Jack Scoville.

When Dan finally sold #00701 in 1972, in addition to campaigning the BRE 240Z #3, he continued to race a Datsun 2000 in D Production. Indeed  he again finished second in the 1973 Runoffs driving a 2000, ahead of #00701, this time driven by it's third owner, Rob McFarlin, of F.A.R. Performance.
