In the early 1980s Ken Glasener, from Golf Illinois, campaigned the ex-BRE Datsun 2000 of John Morton. This car went from BRE to Bob McQueen, who campaigned it to two D Production Championships in 1971 and 1972, the height of the 2000's success.
Ken was quite successful in D Production. The 2000 was classified against the Porsche 924 and Lotus Elan, and the competition was tough. Nonetheless he still qualified for the 1982 Valvoline Runoffs at Road Atlanta. 13th on the grid, Ken finally finished 9th, the first Datsun home, ahead of Paris Cross in the ex-Tom Brennan 'Barton Special'.
The following year Ken also made the Runoffs. He qualified 12th and ran strongly in the early part of the race, only to fade in the latter stages, finally finishing 16th.
When D Production ceased, the 2000 roadster was reclassified in GT3. Ken continued campaigning the car but, like many 2000 owners, he did not achieve the same success in this highly competitive class. He moved to an RX3 which regularly beat the Datsuns in GT3.
